- The garden and trails are available to enjoy free of charge.
- Nature trails are primitive and boggy in areas. Please plan accordingly. Remain on designated trails, do not cut through woods or tall grasses.
- Bikes are not permitted on the woodland trails. A bike rack is available at the Belmont-Ferry Farm Trail terminus.
- The grounds are perfect for walking your pets, but please keep them leashed at all times. Pets (except service dogs) are not allowed in any building. Be courteous of others and pick up after your pet and do not leave pets unattended.
- Our site is a smoke-free zone.
- Sports are permitted in the picnic area/meadows.
- Food and drink are not permitted in the house, studio or summer house. There are picnic tables between the barn and visitor center for guests to use.
- Strollers are not allowed in the House and can be parked outside or on a nearby porch. In the galleries, they are allowed in the upper level.
- Graphite pencil is the only writing or sketching tool allowed in the galleries.
- We welcome visiting artists to work free of charge on the Grounds and in the buildings under these guidelines.
- View art from a distance longer than an arm’s length; do not touch to help us preserve it for future generations.
- Weapons are prohibited on UMW/GMHS property.
- Bags and backpacks larger than 11 inches high x 15 inches wide x 4 inches deep must remain in cars, outside entry gates or on porches. Leaders of children’s groups carrying first aid packs must carry their bags in front to prevent contact with historic collections.
- Printed introductory tour translations are available in French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Dutch, German, Chinese, and Russian are available in the Visitor Center.
